1. Scope of our relationship

What we offer

• The framework. Ubuntu Roots Coaching™ — a relational, community-centered coaching framework, including the Living Tree Model and the five dimensions of relational leadership.
• Content & resources. Articles, the Living Tree Model, the research and evaluation agenda, and educational materials on relational, community-centered coaching with cultural humility.
• Engagement, where offered. Executive coaching, group facilitation, leadership assessments, workshops, and community or partnership opportunities — provided under separate engagement agreements where and when we make them available.

What we are not

Ubuntu Roots does not provide medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice. Our coaching focuses on professional leadership development — not clinical mental health support. If you require therapeutic care, we will help connect you to licensed professionals. The framework seeks rigorous assessment and independent validation before any efficacy claims are made.

3. Intellectual property

What we own

The original content on this site — including text, graphics, logos, the articulation of our framework, diagrams, the Living Tree Model, and any recordings — is owned by Maturity.Coach or its contributors. These assets represent years of professional practice and research synthesis.

What we do not claim. Ubuntu Roots draws on Ubuntu philosophy, the Nguni proverb umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu, and wisdom traditions named throughout the site as inspiration, not ownership. We claim no ownership of those traditions, of the word "Ubuntu," or of the philosophy itself — only of our own particular expression, materials, and branding.

Licensed to you

You receive a limited, non-transferable license to:

• View, download, and print materials for personal, non-commercial use.
• Share content via direct links (not by reposting entire articles) with proper attribution.
• Use any assessment results or coaching insights for your own development journey.

This license may be revoked if you violate these terms.

Trademarks

Ubuntu Roots Coaching™, the Living Tree Model, and associated branding are claimed as trademarks of Maturity.Coach. You may not use these marks without explicit authorization.

5. Confidentiality & boundaries

Coaching conversations

What occurs in any coaching session between you and your coach is confidential, except where:

• You give explicit permission to share insights with stakeholders (for example, organizational sponsors).
• We are legally required to disclose information (court orders, mandatory reporting obligations).
• There is imminent risk of harm to yourself or others — in which case we prioritize safety over secrecy.

Third-party platforms

Coaching or meetings may occur via video, telephone, or other digital channels. Those platforms have their own privacy policies — please review them before sharing sensitive information.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• Ubuntu Roots, Maturity.Coach, and their coaches, partners, and affiliates shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our services.
• Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the specific service giving rise to the claim.
• We assume no responsibility for decisions you make based on our content, coaching, or recommendations.

This limitation does not waive rights that cannot be disclaimed under your local law.

9. Dispute resolution

Conversation first

If a disagreement arises, we commit to seeking resolution through direct dialogue before escalating. Please reach out to [email protected] to begin a good-faith conversation.

Mediation & arbitration

If dialogue fails, we agree to pursue mediation before litigation. Should arbitration be necessary, it shall occur in the jurisdiction where the party responding to the claim is established, under the rules of a mediation/arbitration body agreed by both parties.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the party responding to a claim is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

11. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms as our community evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent website notice. Continued use after revisions constitutes acceptance. You may review the current version anytime at https://ubuntu-roots.com/terms.
